Quoridor is what I would call a great “Coffee Table Game.” Take all the pieces of Quoridor and leave them on the corner of your coffee table and play randomly throughout the day with family and friends. I love it for its subtle strategic element. It’s a very simple to understand and teach game. Great for a quick little game out of no where to kill sometime.

HOW TO WIN

The point of the game is to get your token across the board to the other side. Of course your opponent might have something to try and stop that plan. Your given rectangular bits of wood that act a walls to put up against your opponent. You only have a limited amount of walls so make sure to use them perfectly. Then take your token and make it to the other side in a hurry! It’s quick and simple, great for kids too, I taught my 7 year old son and he really enjoyed playing. (Even genuinely beat me too)

Again the reason I love this game is both how simple it is, and the tactics built into the simplicity of it. As your goal is to make it to the other side you can’t just simply march your way there. You have to be mindful of your opponents walls and possible dead ends you could be placed it. For me it’s like a sort of puzzle with the placeable walls, one specific wall in just the right spot can double your opponent’s walking distance and give you a perfect “Quoridor” to victory.

Quoridor : How To Take Your Turn And Set Up

You have two choices on your respective turns

  1. Move your token in any direction within 1 space.
  2. Place down a wall in any location as long as it doesn’t block your opponent’s route to the other side

That’s it! Short and sweet, that’s why I feel it’s a great coffee table game. Once you know how to play it’s super simple.

4 People Can Play Quoridor

They’ve even got a setup for 4 players to play at once. The goal is still the same, get to the other side of the board. But instead of only worrying about one other opponent, now you have to worry about three. This was an obvious addition to their game that I’m glad they added.

Special Moves

So there are some special moves you’ll want to read the directions about, for when you can take advantage of jumping around corners and over people.

Presentation And Box Setup

The game lacks in presentation but also I think that kinda makes sense. It’s got a simple board and basic pieces. There’s nothing glamorous but that’s what kinda makes it a “Coffee Table” kind of game.

As for the box setup it’s very basic as well. You got the rules, a sack for the pieces, and filler for the board to sit nicely on. It all if nicely and neatly in the box, which is a plus in my book. I always had when you play a game, and it doesn’t fit back in the box a nice as it first did when you got it.

My Recommendations

In my opinion, this is a “Coffee Table” game through and through. It’s not fancy, or trying to do too much. It’s a simple game, that’s easy to learn and teach. Great for younger kids to join in. Small enough to not take up much room. Just a set it down and play whenever your heart desires. If you think you’re interested in Quoridor, I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

Thank you for taking the time to look over my review. I tried hard to explain why i really like this game. Its honestly a fun little game. I definitely will be looking into more games by this company in the future. God bless…
