What Is The Tetris: Strategy Board Game?

Tetris: Strategy Board Game is based off the classic game that we all know and maybe perhaps love. Played for many years on a variety of game consoles and mobile devices, it’s been a household name for a long time.

Tetris: The Strategy board game is the Tetris we know but with a little difference. Challenges have been added for extra points, the first to complete the challenge gets the most points. Each player has their board or the “matrix”, and play goes as usual.

Should You Buy Tetris The Strategy Board Game?

There are two types of people that I think would enjoy Tetris the strategy board game. The first group is the Tetris players who have played more than a few times in the past and found it to be stimulating and challenging. This version of Tetris will be challenging and also be a good kind of puzzle game for this group. You have to play for the future of your matrix in order to complete some of the challenges the game throws at you and it can be very fun to compete.

The second group of people are those who know about Tetris and maybe have played it a time or two but mainly are just looking for a new board game to try out. If you enjoy puzzle games and or simple concept games that are easy to learn, I’d say give this Tetris strategy board game a shot.

How Many People Can Play Tetris?

The Tetris box says that you can play 2-4 players. They provide a total of four “Matrix” panels in the box. If for some reason you had two copies of the game, you could play with more than 4 people. Seems a little silly to me to buy two Tetris games, but I won’t judge.

The more players you can find to player the more challenging and competitive the game will get. More people to compete for the challenges and more people to try and strategically earn the most amount of points.

What Do The Shapes On The Board Mean?

When pulling the clear matrix boards out of the box you’ll notice different Tetris shapes spread out on the matrix. If you play that specific piece on that icon, you’ll gain an extra point at the end of the game.

You’ll notice that there is a black dot icon, this piece is called the Mino. Once you cover that slot with any Tetris piece you can pick up a Mino from the available pile. These pieces will be life savers when you get in an undesirable squeeze.

How Many Times Can You Hold A Tetris Piece?

Holding a Tetris piece is usually where you take your current piece and delay playing it for a better opportunity that may come later. You can only hold one piece at a time, but usually, you can swap it out for your current piece whenever you’re ready.

In Tetris: Strategy Board game, you can only hold a piece once during a game. There is no swapping out for later use, no takebacks, just a one-and-only freebie action. Keep in mind, with only one use of this hold action, you will want to try and save it for a really good reason. The later In the game you save it is probably best.

What Is A Mino Piece?

The mino piece is a 1×1 Tetris piece with the purpose of helping build up troublesome holes in the structure of your matrix board.

You may hang onto them as long as you like, and play as many on a single turn as you like.

I mainly use the Mino pieces when I need to get a difficult piece to fit properly on the matrix board.

Would I Like Tetris: The Strategy Board Game If I Played The Old Version?

I have been playing Tetris as far back as the Game Boy. I’m not some kind of professional Tetris player, but I always seem to pick it back up and play every few years. It’s just one of those basic games that has traveled through time with me, that can never turn down a game or two with.

With this newer board game version, I found that the challenges held most of the appeal for me. They don’t always lead to a victory, but sometimes it’s more fun to pull off completing two different challenges in a game. It still feels like an accomplishment in its own right.

How Long Is A Normal Game Of Tetris: The Strategy Game?

Games don’t last too long, usually for a two-player game it takes about 10-20 minutes. I would say add 5-10 minutes for a full 6-player game.

Since everyone places their piece at the same time, the game moves along fairly quickly. For 6 players I would just account for extra conversations and thinking time.

What Did You Think About The Game?

If you like an easy, normal pace game then Tetris is for you. I enjoy playing it because of the challenges and because of how easy-paced the game is. There’s still an element of competitiveness due to wanting to get the challenge done first to get the most points. I also think this game can easily be taught to smaller children as well and is a family-friendly game.
